Treating Babies & Children

Treating a baby with Shonishin

Shonishin; tapping the acupuncture channels with a kakibari

The Japanese developed a number of non invasive techniques to treat babies and children that are both safe and effective to use. These consists of rubbing and tapping the acupuncture channels, and stimulating different points with small metal tools. This is Collectively known as Shonishin and children generally find treatment painless, gentle and quite acceptable.

For deeper more difficult problems needles can be used aswell, although  they are not retained as in adult treatment.

Children are growing and changing rapidly and their systems are quite dynamic and very different to adults. This can be seen in the way they can get both ill and well quite quickly.Their channel system is still developing and much easier to effect than adults, and so children generally respond quite  quickly to treatment. This is reassuring for both child and parents. Less is definately more with Shonishin, and sessions are much shorter aswell, with the treatment lasting between 5 and 15 minutes depending on the age of the child.

Shonishin is a safe, effective and gentle treatment for children of all ages. It can treat a wide range of problems and is simple and quick to perform. It can also be supported by teaching simple massage techniques to parents.
